Hot Stuff: Our TPL Summer Book Picks

June 11, 2020

The heat is on and so is the summer reading season. Here are 25 great reads by many of our favorite authors (and some pretty great new ones), coming out just in time to hit the beach, pool or your own backyard.

The choice is yours! Help us choose our July "Beauty and the Book" book club pick. Check out the list below and vote for your choice here! Click each image for information on the book and to purchase. Voting closes 6/15.

We're excited about everything on the list but have each chosen our fav below. Enjoy!

 28 Summers - Elin Hilderbrand

Patti's Pick: As an annual summer (rental) pilgrim to Nantucket, I can never resist a new novel by the island’s own Elin Hilderbrand! Year-after-year, she somehow manages to produce amazing beach reads packed with strong women. One book review says this is her best work yet - can’t wait to dig in! (Beth approves of this one, too!)

 Big Summer - Jennifer Weiner

Girls of Summer - Nancy Thayer

Two Truths and a Lie: A Novel - Meg Mitchell Moore

The Lies That Bind - Emily Giffin

Beth's Pick:  I love anything by Emily Giffin and this one did not disappoint! Just finished it up last night and this is definitely one of her best. The book takes place in pre-and-post 9/11 NYC, which is something that all of us at TPL remember all too well.  A summer must-read.

Such a Fun Age - Kiley Reid

Annie's pick: “Such a fun age” - This page-turner had characters that I felt like I really knew and a plot twist that I never saw coming. It tackles race, class and feminism, too.

The Last Flight - Julie Clark

 Beach Read - Emily Henry

Summer Darlings - Brooke Lea Foster

 Rodham - Curtis Sittenfeld

Heather's Pick: I’m a non-fiction junkie, but after watching (and then reading) “Man in the High Castle,” which presents life after World War II had Germany and Japan won, I always jump at the chance to dive into this type of fantasy fiction — which doesn’t come around often. “Rodham” is a mashup between a good biography and “Sliding Doors,” which is my kind of beach read!

 Stray - Stephanie Danler

Sex and Vanity - Kevin Kwan

 The Herd - Andrea Bart

Friends and Strangers - J. Courtney Sullivan

Happy and You Know It - Laura Hankin

The View from Here - Hannah McKinnon

A Woman Alone - Nina Laurin

Sea Wife - Amity Gaige

How to Save a Life - Liz Fenton and Lisa Steinke

In Five Years - Rebecca Serle

Long Bright River - Liz Moore

The Second Home - Christina Clancy

The Half Sister - Sandie Jones

The Grace Kelly Dress - Brenda Janowitz

The Lions of Fifth Avenue - Fiona Davis
